Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Sodium Carbonate
Biochemically differentiate rapid and slow growing Mycobacterium spp. using Sodium Carbonate with the arylsulfatase test.
Brand: Thermo Scientific™ R21267
Description
Biochemically differentiate rapid and slow growing Mycobacterium spp. using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Sodium Carbonate reagent with arylsulfatase test. Whitehead et al. described a liquid arylsulfatase test using phenolphthalein sulfate as the substrate, an incubation time of 2 weeks1 and could be used to differentiate virulent tubercle bacilli from nonvirulent strains. Wayne et al. reported that except Mycobacterium rhodochrous all mycobacteria produce the enzyme arylsulfatase2 and formulated liquid and solid arylsulfatase media3.
The arylsulfatase test measures the ability of certain mycobacteria to produce the enzyme arylsulfatase that attacks the substrate phenolphthalein sulfate, releasing free phenolphthalein. This leads to development of red color in the medium when sodium carbonate is added. Kubica and Rigdon proposed the use of 3-day arylsulfatase test to differentiate Mycobacterium fortuitum complex from saprophytic Mycobacterium spp.4Ready-to-use: Liquid reagentEasy to interpret: Pink-red color development / band on the surface is easy to interpret. This reagent contains 2N sodium carbonate (106 g/1000mL) and is supplied as 25 mL bottles. Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
