Description

Tetrodotoxin, 99%, CAS # 4368-28-9, is a selective voltage-sensitive sodium channel blocker with analgesic activity. It is a toxin found mainly in the liver and gonads of some fish.

General Description

• Tetrodotoxin is a neurotoxin with analgesic activity

• It is a selective voltage-sensitive sodium channel blocker inhibiting nerve action potential and blocking nerve transmission

• Tetrodotoxin is a potent aminoperhydroquinazoline toxin, and interferes with the transmission of signals from nerves to muscles causing paralysis

• Tetrodotoxin is produced by bacteria such as Vibrio alginolyticus, Pseudoalteromonas tetraodonis, and other vibrio and pseudomonas bacterial species

Applications

• Tetrodotoxin is used as a standard during HPLC-based analysis of biotoxins from P. punctata tentacles whole crude extract

• It has also been used to study the effect on low-threshold transient calcium currents in rat hippocampal interneurons
